Greetings! My name is Jennifer Jang, and I’m the founder of Women Empowering Journalism (WEJ).

I founded this organization with one goal in mind: to achieve a future where women are able to fearlessly speak their minds and are no longer forced to keep quiet about sexism, inequality, physical assault, and other issues that concern them. I believe that increasing the number of women in journalism is an effective way to achieve this goal, because journalism gives women the platform to voice their own opinions and share it with the world. Furthermore, having more women in journalism will increase the diversity in social and political newsrooms, meaning more women will be in a position of power.

WEJ offers young women who are looking to get into journalism a starting platform. We offer advice from professional female journalists that we interviewed, as well as recommended journalism programs, competitions, and starter books. Furthermore, if they choose to contact to become a member of our team, they can join in our mission to recruit female journalists in their town.

We have a team of dedicated high school journalists that are dedicated to WEJ’s mission that are actively searching for young women interested in journalism and redirecting them to our program if they don’t know where to start. Although I am from New Jersey, our team is spread out, including those in New York, Minnesota, California, and more.

If you aren’t sure whether you want to start journalism or not, WEJ is the perfect place to start. Just by browsing through some journalism programs and reading our recommended books, you can decide if journalism is truly for you. If it is, the next step is to apply to these programs and pursue journalism. Even if you decide that journalism isn’t for you, we still hope you contribute to our cause by choosing to speak up for women all around the world.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Jang
